James L. Carr is a United States Navy veteran, Journeyman Wireman (IBEW), competitive boxer, and devoted father. Born and raised moving between military bases, he learned early to build both circuits and character under pressure. After his service, James wired homes by day and trained in the gym by night, always driven by a restless search for meaning beyond physical strength. In The Great Awakening, he turns that same grit inward—crafting fifteen poetic “scrolls” that chronicle his path from trauma and silence to sovereign selfhood. Combining raw confession, ancestral ritual, and hard-won life lessons, his writing invites readers to unlearn the masks they wear and remember who they truly are. When he isn’t journaling or rehabbing homes for veterans, James leads the Optimize Within community—guiding men to fuse spiritual growth, fitness, and authentic masculinity into a balanced, purpose-driven life.
